William Stables

William Stables is a painter and printmaker. His approach is traditional but also an intuitive response to a subject place or time. Sketches photographs and memory feed into studio work using expressive strokes, colours and textures to interpret a subject. I don’t want images to be purely representational, I like to leave enough space for a viewer to get involved, interpret and feel connected. William worked as a commercial artist and designer in London before moving to the South West twenty years ago. He has exhibited mainly in the South West, Bristol and London.
